An AI just recommended your competitor. Did it name you?
The AI Rankings Scorecard — a structured self-assessment of how your business appears, or fails to appear, in the answers now deciding who gets the customer. Free, on this page, no email gate.
Based on reviews, coverage and reputation, the most recommended providers are Competitor A and Competitor B. Both are frequently cited for reliability and…
The sale is being decided before anyone visits a website.
Right now, a prospective customer is asking ChatGPT, Perplexity or Google’s AI which business to trust. The machine checks dozens of sources, names one or two companies, and the customer acts on it — no click, no comparison shopping, no second opinion.
That 12% number is the one to sit with. It means ranking well on Google and being recommended by AI are different games with different rules — you can hold enviable positions in traditional search and be completely absent from the answers your buyers are actually reading. And because no dashboard registers an absence, most businesses have no idea it’s happening.
This is a silent walkout at the scale of your whole market. The scorecard exists to make it visible — and measurable.
What you'll walk through.
This isn’t a quiz that tells you you’re doing great. It’s the same structured assessment I’d run for a client, packaged so your team can do the first pass yourselves in an afternoon.
- Build your buyer-question setThe 20–30 real questions your customers ask AI assistants — pulled from sales calls, support tickets and the language of your reviews.
- Test correctly across the major enginesChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Mode — each on its own terms, in a clean session so personalisation doesn’t flatter the result.
- Score presence, accuracy and sentimentRate yourself 0–5 on five dimensions per engine, then score your two most-named competitors. The gap is the finding.
- Diagnose your constraining criterionEvery weak score traces to one of four things the engines verify. The checklist finds yours.
- Convert it into a 90-day programmeA prioritised plan that fits in a single quarter — with owners, sequence, and a monthly measurement table.
Record what the engine actually says — including omissions. Absence is a data point. Most teams find the first pass clarifying in the extreme.
The four things a machine checks before it names you.
Strip away the platform differences and every engine is verifying the same four things. Your weakest one is what’s holding your visibility back — and it’s the first block of your 90-day plan.
Can the machine resolve who you are?
Same name, offering and audience everywhere you’re described. Conflicting signals make an engine hesitate — and hesitation is elimination.
Has the market vouched for you?
Engines are sceptical of self-description and persuaded by independent validation: reviews, industry coverage, expertise visible beyond your own site.
Can your pages be quoted cleanly?
Direct answers, early, under descriptive headings — self-contained passages a machine could lift verbatim, backed by specific figures and first-hand evidence.
Does your content read as current?
Engines treat freshness as a proxy for reliability. Pages substantively updated this quarter, with dates and stats from this year, win citations.
You'll land in one of four bands.
Most businesses testing for the first time land in the first two bands. That’s not bad news — it means the criteria are knowable, the work is achievable, and most of your competitors haven’t started. That’s an advantage with an expiry date.
Don't interpret the results alone.
The scorecard tells you where you stand. A strategy call tells you what to do about it — in which order, for your market specifically. 30 minutes, free, no obligation.
- A walk-through of your completed scorecard and what your scores actually mean
- One substantive observation on how your business currently appears in a major AI engine
- Your two highest-leverage moves for the next 90 days, sequenced for your category
- Which sources the engines trust in your market — and how to earn a place among them
Start with the scorecard.
Six pages. First pass takes 60–90 minutes. Re-run it quarterly — the businesses that measure are, reliably, the businesses that improve.
